This food bank was established 8th November 2016, to work with disadvantaged people in the Whitehead area. It is the nearest food bank for people living in the Whitehead and surrounding areas, including Islandmagee and Ballycarry.

It is registered as a charity and is governed by six trustees from all sections of the community.

People can be referred for help from any of the social networks or can ask directly for help. The storehouse can be contacted here.

Most food help is provided as non-perishable goods, although fresh food can be provided at times.

Donations

The food bank also collects special donations at Christmas time, to help those who would otherwise have little food over Christmas. It also will take some donations of toys at that time for distribution to children. These need to be with Whitehead Storehouse NO LATER THAN the first week of December in order to arrange distribution.

Non perishable food donations, whether specifically for Christmas or for any day of the year, can be left with any Church in Whitehead, or the Community Centre or the Spar shop on Edward Road. Money is also very gratefully received and fully accounted for in the annual accounts. This is used for buying specific non-perishable food items that are in low supply, or sometimes fresh food.

Volunteers

Volunteers to help with packing hampers or parcels for the food bank are always welcome.
